Sherman is a bit bossy, constantly telling Makeeta and Moon he’s in charge. He’s been trying to get Moon to play with him (with the usual Moon results), in spite of the fact he’s supposed to play with Makeeta. I think Makeeta is sulking at the moment, since it’s a bigger step from #1 to #2 than from #2 to #3.
I think he might of actually had a little bit of training on him, despite my initial impressions. We only had two minor “accidents” in the house. After a mild reprimand and a regular schedule of going out, he’s been perfect. In fact, at least one time when he’s needed to go out, he’s repeatedly tapped the doorknob with his nose. I took him out, and he promptly went. If he didn’t know that already, he learned it on his own, and pretty darn quick.
The first week, whenever he drank from the water dish, he’d stand in it. He’s stopped doing that, and he’s learning pretty quickly about sitting and waiting when breakfast and dinner are served. It still takes both of us to feed the three dogs, to keep everyone waiting and sitting until we say “OK”.
The biggest two problems we have at the moment are that he likes to pick up things he shouldn’t (my sweat pants, shoes, books (and he can’t even read!), etc), and a case of leash aggression. He seems to be fine meeting other dogs when he’s off-leash, but on-leash, he even tries to jump Moon or Makeeta if they’re outside at the same time. This can be worked through, but it’s the most annoying, since it’ll make it harder to get him into a Petsmart-type training program.
