Around August 1st, people reported seeing an alligator in the Flat Creek area. Department of Natural Resources biologists are unsure how the alligator came to be in the area. Most likely it was a pet that went from ‘cute’ to ‘scary’ and was released.

September 4th, Access North Georgia (a local newspaper) reports that the alligator has been caught.

Lavender [a DNR spokesman] said that they will keep the gator until they can find a licensed facility or some appropriate habitat down in South Georgia to release him.

According to the Georgia Wildlife Federation, alligators are on the endangered species list. I’m glad to hear that it’s going to be released in an appropriate area, and not destroyed.
