Subaru Impreza

Update: Hit in a parking on 2012/03/23 by a woman in a minivan, at around 5 MPH, and did over $7K worth of damage. Insurance company declared it totaled, and wrote me a check for $6535.04. If I had kept the car, I would have gotten $4220. With the cost of repairs, the fact that it was at 121K and still needed the full 105K service (oil pump, timing belt, head gaskets), and had a CV joint possibly going bad, it was more economically advantageous to let it go (which was a hard choice!). I ended up replacing the Impreza with a Volkswagen Jetta GL wagon.

2001 Subaru Impreza RS2.5, 2001/01/31

Back when we lived on the boat, and I worked at home, I used to watch World Rally Cup (WRC) racing on the SpeedVision channel. I was quite enamored with the Subaru Imprezas they were running. At that time, they were racing the WRX, and were just bringing them into the US, but they were available only as a pre-order. It was about time for a new car, and I checked out the RS2.5 (Rally Sport, 2.5 liter). I liked the look of the 2 door much better than the 4 door WRX, and I didn't want to wait another couple months for a car. So I bought one.

It's been a great little car. The 150HP normally aspirated engine is perky, but it's no barn-burner like the WRX and STi. The handling is really good, even after 66,666 miles (see?). It's developed a few squeaks, but nothing really annoying. Except for a defective knock sensor I haven't got around to replacing, other than regular oil changes, the 30K maintenance (done at 38K...), and a set of tires, I haven't done anything to it. I should do a full-up service on it, as I expect to drive this thing until something fails in a spectacularly expensive way (or I get run over by Mexicans).

This vehicle has the EJ251 SOHC engine, making 165 hp @ 5600 RPM and 167 ft·lbf @ 4000 RPM.
